Hello all,
This experience was different in that we had to chose a specific person and follow directions. The person I chose was perfect for the 5 phases and modeling the qualities given. She is an older woman who is quite mellow and has defined qualities in all the areas of meditation. She is a person I consider my surrogate mother because my mother passed 5 years ago. My person is a retired Pastor, full of godly wisdom and sound advice. She was there immediately and continues to be in my life.
I did experience different feelings throughout the entire practice and got chills when it got to #5 heart to heart. This is an area that I want to be very genuine in so that people feel the kindness, love and compassion that I want to share. Mindfulness and meditation have rendered increase in my psychological and spiritual wellness. I am feeling more connected and am taking time to focus on areas to generate wholeness and lifestyle change. I plan to continue utilizing the learned practices daily to continue my path of human flourishing. Then I will share with others to help them foster greater health and wellness.
About the quote: A person cannot lead someone to a place or point they have not been. Having a general idea is like being lost in a maze, trying to figure your way out. This statement applies to health and wellness in that providers must work on their own spiritual evolution to actually experience what the model represents. I have an obligation to my clients because I can’t expect them to get and understand what I have not tried and accomplished. Personally, I will continue the practices learned in this class and seek to find a trainer possibly through the resources provided.
Did everyone else have a pleasant experience? Let's share!

Thank you for sharing this information. The person you have chosen sounds like an all around amazing and giving person and sometimes that can be hard for us to live up to the standards of someone like that. I look at people around me who I want to be like and I simply tell myself "it is not impossible to change your ways, you just have to have to want to, to do it." I think that we can all be better people if we just try. You seem like you have your mind made up of the changes you want to make and you seem determined to do so. The heart for me when comparing to the person I chose was breath taking. I think that when a person opens up their heart to whatever needs to come in, a life changing experience will flow through them and they can become a brand new person. Thank you for sharing all of this information and good luck in your new transformation!

Taya,
DeleteYes the woman who I chose is quite amazing. She is elderly 70ishy. But al the descriptive used in the meditation were of her and immediately situations with her came to mind. Yes the heart to heart was the greateness for me. The person I chose is all about the heart, loving, caring, compassionate, generous and more. It is a big order to want to accomplish but that's what this process is all about to me lifestyle change. Prior to this class, God had already begun transformation in my life. Things were becoming clearer, directions are being defined, and to top it all off I am having an attitude change. Change does not happen over night and to everything there is process. Taking one day at a time, I believe it is doable. Thanks for your support and encouragement!

Hi Dru,
ReplyDeleteI think we're very fortunate to have people in our lives that have provided guidance, wisdom, compassion and love...like your "surrogate mother" my uncle provided the love and support I needed. I remember one particular conversation with him that I would like to share with you. We were discussing family and I was very irate at certain family members...my uncle was always kind and generous to everyone and those same people would take advantage of my uncle's kindness and mistreat him at times. I said to my uncle "why do you keep doing this...how many times do you have to be stabbed in the back before you realize this isn't getting you anywhere with them??" My uncle response was simple..."they do what they feel is right...I do what is right for me. If I change my ways then I won't be true to myself." Now, understand, at the time I did not understand what my uncle was saying to me, I brushed it off as "you're being foolish" (not that I said that to him)...but I came to understand later...and now that conversation with my uncle has such a profound meaning to me. He was being true to his inner being...that is who he was regardless of what external adversaries came his way. I try to follow by my uncle's example...this is one of many lessons he taught me.
I think we all are growing at our own pace. I think your strong spirituality and your awareness will help you on the road to human flourishing...you're off to a great start!!

Manisha,
DeleteThank you for the positive observation and support. But, you too are progressing. You had a personal encounter with positive feedback that you can use and apply in other areas of your life. I believe these meditation are not only for personal use but to heighten our awareness about connecting and using what we gain as well as learn. Getting in touch with the positive people in our life and focusing on the relationship allows us to look at the wisdom, assess it and then apply it in our life daily or when possible.
We are growing at our own pace and gaining the benefit of lifestyle change and wholeness of mind, body and spirit.

Hey Dru! I choose my grandfather that passed many years ago nut left me with memories that will never fade. I did find that after the exercise I was more emotional than normal. I think during the exercise I focused on all the positives and after I started allowing the negatives back in immediately and started to miss him all over again. I am a very spiritual person and when we were asked to look at the bright white light above the persons head I imagined my grandfather in heaven having the most amazing time not being in pain and enjoying God. I enjoy reading your posts and congratulate you on your path!

Hi Jenn,
DeleteMy mother came to mind too when we were to concenctrate on the white light and I guess that is why I focused on my surrogate mother. Mom has been deceased for 6 years now but it is like yesterday in my mind. I really love her and had a great closeness in her latter days. It is amazing how things we think are out of mind but really are in the forefront of our thinking. Being spiritual is a great quality and can bring much comfort and peace, hold onto it. BTW it is okay to be emotional some time -- it can be a positive as well as a negative. Thanks for posting with me, let's stay in touch. I feel a warmness and connection reading your post.
Dru
That is good that you are starting mindfulness and meditation to help increase your psychological and spiritual wellness. I am thinking about starting that too. I need to find other positive methods of relieving stress in my life. I try reflecting on everything I did the past week to see what I could of done better to handle stressful situations in the future. I want to get on a path toward human flourishing.
ReplyDeleteHi Aaron,
DeleteTry just plain relaxation first. Closing the eyes, elevating the feet, in a quiet location everything turned off including your mind for a brief period. Also, add a little breathing exercise of inhale and exhale a couple times. Maybe put on some calming music. I find these things have helped me in the past. It slows things down and allows me to get in touch with me. Let me know if you try and how it works out.
